Hi Cherri, I have some great news for you... your babies are superstars! We decided to take Spider and Amelia to Rochester on Sunday and they made quite an impression on everyone there. The start of the day wasn't very good because we were a little late, and about half way there I realized I forgot my show halter! But once we got there both Amelia and Spider were calm enough for everyone. Amelia was knickering a bit, but she remembered everything. Spider got a 2nd in halter, and Amelia got a 3rd in different classes(both out of about 10 or 12 horses). As for showmanship... well... Spider was doing a perfect job right up until it was her turn to go in line! She swung her hip while mom was trying to set her up to go, and then she was a crooked when she left the line. Which was too bad because the rest of the pattern was perfect. And with mom's outfit on, and Spiders fake tail in, they looked like a million bucks! As for me and Amelia, I haven't been practicing the 360s, only 90 and
180s because I don't want to put too much strain on her hocks right now.
And guess what... the pattern asked for a 360. In addition I think both
my mom and me got the anatomy question wrong. But now for the great stuff.
I tacked up in time only to catch the last 4 minutes of the warm up for
English and Cherri, I was crying! Then we went on to the Adult Equitation. In the pattern again we missed the lead, but I just kept my leg on her and she did a perfect flying change after only a couple strides... so we still got a 3rd! This time the judge came up and said "good job". And finally we went in the English Pleasure stake. We were both tired, but Amelia never complained. This time when we missed the lead the judge saw. Oh well. She came up after and said "too bad about the lead in the beginning." Cherri it was a great day! I was ready to retire her after the show, but changed my mind after pitching it to everyone else. I HAVE THE BEST HORSE EVER! As for Spider... They had decided to just ride her in the warm up. So, Joanne rode her during the English break and the lunch break. She was a little tense, but behaved very nicely. Mom just started riding her in an English saddle again about a week ago and didn't feel that comfortable yet. But the great news about her... after riding Friday night mom got off and said "that was the best ride I have had in my life!". Sorry if I rambled a bit, I am still so excited. She is going to get a week off with a strict diet of hay, grass and cookies, and then the next show is Yodys in September. And then she gets the fall off. Cherri, you have great horses... Claire
